Curious case of the lone battler in traditional women's wear

The thing of beauty is a joy forever. Today this blog talks about trends, fashion, customs and it's evolution with time.
Fashion being one of the most engrossing topics induces a high level of intellect and glam sham. It is one of those popular themes which is closely followed by millions independent of age, class and custom bar. In short it remains the most prominent fulcrum about which most of ours’ lives thrust. When we discourse fashion, trends, wardrobe, get up and other commodities of enhancement, our mind ensembles torrents of options that are visualised by them on a daily basis at numerous place. Some of them being cinemas, malls, pubs, metro and the much-hyped fashion shows organised by top honchos of the industry on a broader range across metro cities. Yes, these are the fashion protocol followed by masses deliberately. People do look up to those absorbing models featuring in the 60*40 banners hanging alongside towering mansions with a glint of desperation in their eyes to attain the same charisma. Still when it comes to  the unveiling of seasonal collections at fashion shows fewer bizarre creations draw flak from the retro mass on the pretext of being too weird to understand, on the contrary, most of them make it to the closets of those hardcore fashion freaks who vie for it.
Of late a predominant thought has occupied my mind. And it is about the significance of rapidly disappearing ethnic wear (i.e Saree, Bindi, Bangles, and Kohl to name a few). While a current lot of youngsters seems to be smitten by the typical westernisation bug, Europeans, on the contrary, seem to have developed an affinity for our evergreen wardrobes. And this change of stance compels me to take a note of the profoundness that comes prefixed with our customary attire. Youngsters in our country would go nuts over the likes of high heels, corsets, revealing pullovers, backless dress, midriff defining, neckline revealing body hugging dresses. Today's women flaunting  maximum becomes the source of inertia for the innovative designers of the apparel industry. At a recently concluded Paris fashion week designer, Jean Paul unleashed his model adorned with a circular black bindi accompanied by a bun hairdo. Similarly, in Milan international fashion week, a designer showcased his show stopper sporting turban which didn’t go unnoticed either and gave paparazzi their quota of news to brag. Over the years, European designers have shown their tremendous affinity towards exclusive Indian outfits and these people makes us wonder how over the years conventional Indian outfits have attained popularity among them. Our ethnic wear stands mascot for our almost dead cultural and ethical values. Despite the unprecedented popularity that western outfits enjoy among masses, the customary accessories for women by far remains the quintessential of femininity.

Personally, if I were to opine about the customary Indian outfits and how soothing it is to watch a maiden draped in a saree with a contrasting 'Bindi' firmly affixed amidst her temples, all I would say that it is eternal and divine. In fact, it is the most appealing fabric present in a woman’s closet that ever existed, but for that to happen the wearer must be skilled enough to make it visually apt. By far it remains the mother of obsessions for most women and a fantasising object for men.

Switching to another happening topic and that being typical marriage ceremonies that take place in Indian culture. A typical Sherwani- Lehnga clad function which has not only been favourites among us, rather have attracted the likes of wedding planners and fashion buffs from across the globe. The big fat Indian weddings which involve the huge sum of cash are in a way takeaway-opportunity for innovative brains. Designers fancy their chances by showcasing their talent and carve a niche for themselves in one of the biggest rising markets of the world. Enthusiasts from India as well as foreign land fancy their chances to deliver their best. As a matter of fact, the billionaires who flush out millions of rupee in wedding ceremonies just to create a buzz among their contemporaries remain golden goose for seasoned pros. And it can be better elaborated by quoting the instance of the extravagant wedding of Mr. Laxmi Mittal’s niece. Mittal went on to shell 500 cr. to make it an immemorial event and have been touted as second most lucrative wedding till date, next only to prince Williams’ wedding. Sole motive behind discoursing this event as an example is because the marriage took place in Europe and was organised in typical Indian style where guests, chefs, performers and designers were flown in from different parts of the world. I put it this way that it was a stamp of authority on fashion world by showcasing others that we aren’t subtle when it comes to setting trends. Many foreigners have married and others have expressed their desire to get hitched in India,  and that too Indian way. Recently Hollywood actress Elizabeth Hurley scheduled her wedding in customary Indian way with the action taking place in a fort of Jodhpur. In fact, all the guests including the bride and groom were made to sizzle in the Sherwanis and Lehnga chunnis. Sharing these instances fills me with a sense of self-esteem as these occurrences are but the courier of India’s magnitude in the fashion realm.

Here the million dollar question awaiting to be answered is,‘ What kind of fashion should be followed ?‘’ well that totally depends on your intellect. I mean you know better what makes you look beautiful. Of course, a disc or a pub visitor would never try hip-hopping draped in a saree. Those working for IT firms at top managerial post have to slip on those formal wears and suits. But when it comes to socialising a traditional wear is always in the reckoning.

Shedding those extra clothes will never be out of fashion because it is termed as an agent of spreading raw appeal to the onlookers and is directly connected to universal demand and supply rule. Traditional wear outlines the same genuine appeal and to some extent, they outdo those extra short skirts and scantily dressed women. Can we say that a typical traditional wear is a perfect instrument for making a style statement and is an a go-to-option for women?

Having said everything I eloquently opined my insight about the thing I bat for and I hereby concede that everything comes with a specific significance, a label of value and style firmly stuck right across it. Now it is up to you to sabotage your demeanour or give it a touch of elegance. After all, it is you who knows better about yourself. Why would you try to cut a figure of a hag despite knowing that you are the most beautiful woman ever existed?

GENOCIDE IN THE BACKDROP OF PROSPERITY

India is developing at a brisk pace & today we are being conferred as an energy efficient nation. Having said that I strongly believe that with great power comes greater vulnerability. Testimony to the foresaid, India along with Russia, Italy, London & Spain have the distinction of being called a country to have incurred self-inflicted disasters. While some of the accidents occurred, some were incurred. While countless people died, their coming generations suffered terribly.

In last few weeks I have come across some appalling articles, which got featured in newspapers & other social media platforms. The articles were specially dedicated to the problems of common mass & the way ignorant government has been ducking it as always.

I would start with one of the worst disasters of India, which took place in the city of Bhopal. An adversity from which the city is still recuperating & people living there are yet to overcome the demons of their past. Yes, I am talking about the leakage of MIC form Union Carbide factory, a fertilizer manufacturing facility on the night of Dec 3,1984. MIC, which is believed to be one of the most deadly chemicals that ever existed, escaped into the atmosphere on the fateful night. The layer of gas shrouded one quarter of the city & those who came in its contact died one of the most brutal deaths that any human would ever imagine of. Those living in the nearby areas were reduced to corpse within a few hours. People succumbed to vital organ failure & serious respiratory complications. Such was its intensity that even today a newborn comes into the world with physical deformity. Read more about the Bhopal Gas Tragedy here.

The city of Bhopal has come a long way since then, the only thing that hasn’t changed is the place and the ill effect that it casts over the citizens residing there. A recent survey conducted in Bhopal doesn’t augur well for the city. Little do they know that the remains of harmful mercury particles which settled down on the ground & further got soaked by the underground water has now contaminated a major portion of water that is supplied in the city. The unaware people have consumed the same water & have infected their body mechanism in the long run. If that is anything less, the obtuse government has turned a blind eye towards them, thus leading them to a life-threatening situation. The newborns in the adjoining areas inherit congenital disorders and infections. Few NGOs have tried to voice their suppressed resistance by exposing the genuine issue & bringing it to the notice of those accountable for their wellbeing but a concrete solution still looks bleak.

The other story is about UCIL (Uranium Corporation Of India Limited). UCIL is located in Jadugoda district of mineral rich Jharkhand which houses major chunk of mineral resources found in India. We know that uranium is a mineral of utmost utility when it comes to generation of nuclear energy & production of power. In the pursuit of development the poor laborers working day & night in those dark trenches have been continuously ignored. Uranium being radioactive substance dissipates the harmful particle into the respiratory system of those who come in its contact, thus reducing their lifespan of the recipient signally & also affect their coming generations. People die because of lung cancer & other forms of skin disorders. Their children have been nursing dreadful diseases like cerebral palsy, deformity, mental illness & limb disorder, most of which are congenital disorders. But I guess the MDs of these conglomerate hardly bother about their safety.

The last phrase of the story is about KMML (Kerala metals and minerals limited); here the industrial effluents have contaminated the area in the 500 meters reach from its nexus. An initiative taken by a news channel unveiled the reality of the place. While some of the activists from the local areas have been waging their lone crusade but it took a special report from them to make the government acknowledge the reality. The contaminated water has spread to the tube-wells where the pH level was measured too acidic to drink. The govt had confirmed that an area of 150 meter was affected & would be taken over anytime but the reality check revealed that 500 meters of the area was obsoleted & remained instrumental in spreading deadly health hazards. Skin disorders like cracked legs; sore skin & burnt skin had been discovered among the inhabitants. Their woes were multiplied by their drying paddy fields. The government finally put a full stop to their miseries by confirming that 500 acres of the area in the vicinity of KMML will be taken over by the state run enterprise & people will be relocated to a safer place.

These major problems gives us an insight to the reality & there are many such issues across the length & width of our vast land which even fail to tickle the government’s ears. But the million dollar question that arise here is, ‘When are we going to value human lives above other material benefits?’

IT’S BETWEEN A DEPLETED GRAND OLD MAN AND A RECKONING MAN OF STEEL

“Are you scared of one to one battle with BJP prime ministerial candidate Mr. Modi” quizzed Arnab. “Actually I see a huge power of youngster suppressed, our task at hand is to utilize the suppressed power, empower women and bring a more powerful RTI” replied VP(vice president of congress party). The reply was completely irrelevant of the question tossed at him and he sounded more stereotyped, a well-memorised answer it was, something ilk we used to do when we were a kid, memorising by heart with the help of cardamom seeds and a glass of water every morning. Similarly, he kept replying in a random fashion to most of the questions thrown at him, trying to put his best foot forward and veil the visibly relevant exasperation written all over his face. Arnab Goswami went on to ask if congress had lost the elections before it began but alas even this question failed to receive a thumping reply. Apparently the interview went viral on the internet with YOU TUBE views surpassing the million mark in no time and drew flak from the internet geeks as well as the English literate mass almost instantly who were keen to see the ‘Shehzada’ take to guard against unarguably the best news reporter of the country. Like others I too closely followed the 80 minutes candid talk between Arnab and congress’ VP, though it didn’t turn out to be one of those candid talks full of wit and knowledge powerhouse at display which most of the fellow Indians anticipated, rather it turned out to be an awful experience for the viewers and nightmare for the frontrunner to the most coveted post. In the course of the interview, Arnab resembled a Dale Steyn and VP resembled a Suresh Raina and a one-sided game being played in which a visibly petrified Gandhi scion was left languishing to tackle the torrents of short pitched balls and bouncers which were well directed at him. While ducking and swinging, he took several blows but at last he unwillingly spooned one of the balls to the second slip (he acknowledged the role of congressmen in 1984 riots).

To begin with I won’t discourse all those talks doing round these days i.e the much awaited 2014 general elections, nor will I discuss all the equations being set up. As these exit polls and math work is good only till a news channelwala wall or a magazinewala does that, and so far all the equation leads to a common consensus in BJP statesman Mr. Narendra Modi being the pick of the masses. But before I write anything let me be very specific that I am quite an apolitical type of person who shares more or less same insight for everyone.

The other day when I played one of those videos from latest TV series 7RCR which is an initiative of star news and co-hosted by famous novelist Chetan Bhagat. The main purpose of this series is to educate the viewers about our prime ministerial candidates who are vying for the most coveted kursi. The episode on Mr. Modi being the foremost clearly gives an indication as to how the plot is being prepared to woo the masses. With the kind of unprecedented adulation he has received through the lengths and breadths of the country, it clearly shows the kind of fan following and support he enjoys. The crowd has shown its inclination by jumping into the NAMO bandwagon, and no points for guessing the pro NAMO waves that has stormed the country. Meanwhile, the nexus of my talk still remains that only a deserving candidate should be the able heir to the throne. With both congress and BJP having their own shares of ugly episodes, it becomes quite a herculean task to pin point the right one. Where UPA II was marred by some of most disgraceful scams as coal, commonwealth and 2G. In addition to that PM drew the bulk of flaks for being a puppet to congress president. If that was anything less the inflation turned out to be the last nail in the coffin for UPA II. As regards BJP how can one forget the memorable statement of last BJP PM Vajpayee ji who after losing the elections in 2003 went on the records to quote that, “Godhara led to our defeat”. And despite Mr Modi getting a clean chit from the supreme court,    one can’t turn a blind eye to the incidents of Godhara. Though few of his ministers got caught he came clean despite re-appeals by Mrs. Zakia Zaffari widow of slain leader Ehsaan Zafari and re-probing by SIT (special investigating team). And eventually he remains the prime suspect of marshalling the whole plot of Godhara for many pseuds. Though it is one of the most horrible accidents in the history of the country, one can’t deny that it was a reaction to what happened with Sabarmati express. Well BJP has been drawing its own share of criticism for being a staunch Hindu and have become quintessential of the agents preaching their own values, kind of raising a voice to suppress the Muslims. However, I won’t dug much deeper into this and go on to share my views of them.
When I see Modi I am forced to discourse the change he has incurred in Gujrat as CM in last decade. And I see him doing the same for India, a privilege which Indians have been eluded of in last 5-6 years. Given the kind of life he has lived in his 63-year-old existence allows us fair insight to what kind a person he is. Popularly known as chaiwallah (as a kid he sold tea at railway platform). He never had the luxury to make a lavish living, leave alone a middle-class life. I tell you I followed his initial 2-3 rallies very keenly until it turned out to become a regular affair. I recall the ‘Hunkaar’ rally at Patna, Bihar where he went on to address the local crowd in the local languages of state, that being Bhojpuri, Maithili, and Maghi. It left me thinking about the kind of personality he has evolved into and respect he commands. He has worked his ass out to become what he is today. If you take accounts of the development he cropped up in Gujrat, it is numerous. Some of them being the interlinking of rivers in the state to curb the irrigation problem, giving way to more foreign investment in the state, and enormous utilization of solar power. Even foreign countries like Japan and the USA have sent their foreign delegations to get the layout of development model of the state, per capita income has improved steadily as compared to other states and solely because of this one man show. When he delivers a speech I see adrenaline rush visible on his face, a positive energy gushes out through his every single pore, his talks are a perfect blend of wit and knowledge. Even most of the high profile news reporters including Arnab couldn’t get better of him because he has mastered this art of being precise and witty. One will not find him making promises as he relies on work more being done than said, he rather holds a mirror firmly in his hand in which he shows people the true face of UPA government. Having said that, I still affirm that it’s too hard to take a call on the legitimacy of the correct person.
When we talk of congress party the development talks take a backseat. With a couple of big schemes to their credit like MNREGA and AADHAR, they have more of scams poor governance to show and which has left people with so much of despise. So you just can’t blame me for being a pro saffron party, the fact remains they have not given us anything good to talk. Right ?? now on the other side we see Gandhi scion ready and up for grabs. With the bulk of impetus lying on his shoulders and compelling him to the fore in the race to prime ministerial post, he has a task cut out and after counting all the crimes committed by them in the 2nd term I fear he will have to wait till he becomes a pro and grows a thick skin. Most of the good work done by the UPA-I was shrouded by the series of unpleasant events in UPA II. PM sir lost all the reputation he made all these years, the most memorable being his stint as Finance Minister during 1900-91 when he bailed the country out of the jaws of financial crunch. But that is a history and has earned himself a quite proficient tag of ‘bechara’. Had Mr. Singh taken firm steps to diminish corruption, degrading foreign policies, the taking-for-granted attitude of Chinese and Pakistanis who wanted to hear a firm and controlled voice coming from the top, the scenarios would be much different. Countrymen were left wanting to get a glimpse of their PM speaking, but he kept stretching his prolonged maunvrat and kept turning off aam aadmi. We need someone with I-give-it-back-to-you attitude. And I see that in Mr. Modi. A mere thought of seeing Rahul Gandhi as PM leaves me with wild goose bump. Reason being, what can be expected of a person who can’t afford to be candid or for that matter diplomatic to a reporter. Lastly, we must reckon that India is a democratic country, but I see monarchy system being followed in the backdrop of democracy. Let us realize that it just not the Gandhi family who holds the baton for the congress of for that matter India.
As of now I suppose Mr. Modi with his in-your-face persona, by far remains the aptest choice for the kursi. His invincible attitude is what makes him stand out of the crowd and has been rightly chosen as the saffron flag wielder. If India has to make a strong statement on the global platform and regain its somewhat lost pride we need somebody with a creative and confident head at the helm. Shehzada needs to be more mature and must get to know the syllabus properly so that the next time when he is up for an interview he doesn’t find anything out of syllabus. I guess VP is still a novice and really needs to grow a thick skin with all his homework neatly done (at least to show) before he conquers heart of 1.25 billion people.

THE CURSE OF BEING AN EMPLOYEE OF IT SECTOR

The tale begins with first economic reforms of 1991 when India’s economy was in tatters and paved way for the dogma of LPG (Liberalisation, Privatisation, and Globalisation). To bail  us out of a grave situation like this and pull an emergency brake on country's economic slump we had to bargain with all our gold reserves in order to elevate foreign exchange reserve and maintain an uninterrupted import services which would have barely lasted for a couple of weeks. In all probability India would have  been a bankrupt state. As the probability  of an economic instability loomed large over Indian government’s head, IMF along with few foreign banks  turned out to be our rescuer. But the LPG policy turned out to be the game changer in long run. Indian economy certainly found a saviour in it. Our then Prime Minister Mr. P.V. Narsimha Rao and Finance Minister Mr. Manmohan Singh with their sheer cognizance skilfully chalked out the execution of LPG in Indian market scheme and thus started inflow of substantial amount of foreign capital. We did well to overcome the integrity threatening debacle and in lieu opened up a gateway for foreign companies to venture in India and spread their tentacles over the, ready to flourish, IT market. In pursuit to become a force to reckon with they started fingering the parameters set by them. To outrun others in the long run, they dictated most of their monopolistic terms on government and after foreseeing the lucrative impact they would inflict on Indian economy, even government complied to most of their terms and conditions if not all.

As the new millennium dawned, IT giants of 21st century found a tradable market in India and country's economy peaked to new heights. As a matter of fact, massive source of India's revenue remains investment from foreign MNCs. With ample of IT companies running into the fray and investing in Indian market, India started getting counted in world's top growing economies.

Back in India, fashion of pursuing engineering as premier higher education became a rage among teenagers. Our ignorant government paved way for corporate giants in the long run. If an online census is to be believed, south India enjoys the majority in housing maximum number of engineering college when compared to number of public schools there. Millions of engineers are manufactured every new session and are left to wander in this succumbing market, subsequently the pursuit of job begins.

Time passed and number of engineers in market swollen to enormous numbers and so did vacancies in the MNCs. But it was not very late that their crooked brain started dictating their terms and conditions on employees.

Things reached unprecedented height from where inflicted damage was irreversible and things went out of proportion. Several employees on the conditions of anonymity confided their problems to media and other sources who lent their hands forward in voicing their concerns. Reasons ranged from being subjected to mental as well as physical harassment (women have always been their soft target) at work place. Cases of women being sexually assaulted or physically abused in lieu of a fat package or steady promotion were most common. A sector which once was dream for most of the aspiring engineers, turned into a nightmare. A series of woeful experiences from female employees came into light caused by their so called bosses who misunderstood themselves to be their real time masters.

As the lousy charactered bosses started using power that came with position in most of the cases, while in few women initiated to get a promotion and perk, and ended up getting cheated of unfulfilled promises. Recently a friend of mine overheard some officials at a recruitment drive in Bangalore talking about their preference for fairer sex. This was the story of female employees, as regards their male counterparts even beauty was never any criteria of such ilk unless they had blessings of female bosses who were actively involved in some cases. Extra time work and unusual heavy workloads started doing the damage and employees were being treated as machines. Many amendments in laws and rules took place which worked as ointment on a huge burn which still inflicted lots of pain. Recently an employee of a well reputed IT company iGATE went on the records to quote the stark truth behind onsite sending policies of MNCs in which an employee is being sent abroad for the duration of few years and is offered lucrative deals and packages. In turn they are being forced to work overtime and failing or even protesting which they are blackmailed for being returned to their country terminating their contract which may lead to the non-fulfilment of their pay. The fear of losing a well set job and future consequences looming over their head forces them to use a lenient approach thus agreeing to their conditions. With bosses breathing down their neck, all they can do is choose a path of submission in the pursuit to survive. In another story most of the job description and working profile was violated thus employees were subjected to work well par the minimum stipulated time. Very few show the nerves to defy at the cost of their job rest become susceptible to the company’s norms.
This was the torrid tale of the employees, if we move a little backtrack in their scheme of things there comes a melodrama called campus recruitment from which most of us if not all have lost their faith. In 2013 a nationwide agitation was launched against the software giant HCL which was biggest of its kind India ever since software companies set up their market here. Reason being very precise, the students who were placed way back in 2011 through their campus drive haven’t got their confirmation/joining letter until 2013. Initially the authorities, when obligated played safe citing the reasons in unavailability of projects but things got more intense when they kept stuffing candidates from the newer batches thus strengthening their bench, and fiddling with the lives of thousands of budding aspirants who were ready to step into the realm of software engineering. However as the agitation peaked at right time and expected consequences were visible to all. Students started getting their due in the form of joining letters. But the tale don’t finish here, quite similar to that of HCL’s even other IT majors like Infosys and CTS too kept most of their placed candidates in their wings. Later it was exposed by placement cell of various colleges that few of these companies preferred some of their highly reputed partners (colleges) when it came down to releasing the joining letters and in the fray smaller companies and institutes lost the race as they won’t offer them with a lucrative offer. A recently concluded online survey highlighted that there are nearly 50,000 engineers who are either warming the benches of few IT companies or started working for smaller firms or BPOs to support their family.

Though most of the amendments still go against the rules of companies but the recently passed companies-bill was somewhat a breather and quite aptly turned the focus of government towards the insecure and ill-fated life of private company employees as compensation, securities and insurances were a few major concerns. Not only that even the practice of firing employees under the pressure of recession and financial crunches have been brought to the scanner and this will certainly grant a huge relief to those who had sword hanging over their heads. Having said that, even government policies and acts won’t make much impact on ground realities. If something has to change then it must be initiated from its crux. Today more than half of the capital influx in the country is because of the larger number of MNCs targeting India and rightly because India houses 1.3 billion people and is being counted as the fastest growing economy subjecting to the pivotal role of public sector and other sectors. A horde of talent is what India has and the world reckons that. Then why do we always bear the burns ???

Tale of cosy encounters

Once in a while we find handful of lessons to learn from and a few of those snippets turn out to be a firm writing on the wall when we sit to recollect them. While JAN 01 2014 was quite an eventful day in itself than what was presumed beforehand, a few anxious rather deliberate moments gave me more than a reason to discourse it candidly.
Before I begin I must do the needful, having said that I extend my thanks giving and acknowledgement rituals. First being my gratitude to the makers of the battery operated rikshaw which runs non-stop to the adjoining areas around DELHI metro stations. And the second being the DELHI metro itself, the mother of all the public transport in India. They together make a formidable combination in providing budding youngsters more than a purpose to cheer. And me being no different from the league and a law abiding citizen I know my marked areas and enjoy the circumstances I land up in more often. “Aur dilli ki hawa me toh kuch baat zarur hai”. Ever since I landed in the national capital city, things with pleasant outcome have been occurring of late.
Well without dragging it further if I put it straight then it was Dec 13th when I landed up in one of those abrupt rather blissful incidents during one of my casual visits to my cousin sister’s place in DELHI cum Gurgaon (Ahh…it is a border area after which Gurgaon territory begins). Those who are frequent commuter of DELHI metro yellow line would know that as train leaves from SAKET towards QUTAB MINAR or vice versa train halts for a couple of minutes reason being traffic congestion when the nature of track changes i.e it changes from underground to elevated. And the nature of braking shows how amateur/pro the driver is. As the metro resumed it journey the driver pressed accelerator as if it were a plane all set for a take-off and then its brakes came down heavily, resultant some of the commuters banged themselves against the metallic wall of train while few collided with their co passengers. In my case a woman in her late 20s lost her balance abruptly and ran into me. She hit me thud on my torso. Meanwhile she was a bit cumbersome I cherished the collision as I held my ground and the steel pole firmly which I was inclined on. I completed the formality by pleading sorry and coincidentally the words even collided and we ended up beaming at each other. As I didn’t want to show case the typical chipku men attribute, I preferred to keep the things modest at my end. As I reached my destination she continued her journey to the location unknown to me. And I still bestow my wishes to the kind driver.
If that was anything lesser than the next event which unfolded on the very first day of 2014 turned out to be a perfect way to kick start NEW YEAR. Morning went past quite eventful with some new friends and family while night belonged to veteran friends. It was as late as 10:45 pm until I reached my metro station (VISHWAVIDYALAYA). But things were not that quiet as I presumed and soon after I exit metro premises I bumped into one of those parked rikshaws awaiting its last set of passengers. A lady which was in her late 20s emerged almost at the same time and grabbed the seat opposite to me. Now a little while ago I heaped praises on this cramped vehicle, few reasons being: It is quite an eco friendly as it run on battery, it is light , easy to drive and has literally handicapped the autowalas and broken their monopoly on road who misunderstood DELHI and its roads to be their ancestral property. And the most vital being the cosy architecture of the carrier. The seating system being so compact give a feeling that when applied an emergency brake a person might run into the one sitting opposite to them. Now it would have been easy for you to take a wild guess, still I would like to depict the picture of the events that followed. Lady being the lone passenger on the rikshaw felt awkward and chose to keep herself indulged by conversing with some relative of hers on phone. You can’t expect a lone girl to be comfortable among men at 11 pm that too in DELHI. Meanwhile what I could make out was that she was an average looking girl and I didn’t intend to spare much of my time gazing her. However the guy to the right of me was more interested in her and kept his gaze firmly affixed onto her. Here one thing which compels me to discourse a topic is the sensibility and the controlling capacity of the women in avoiding to stare at men, as noticed more often women don’t prefer gazing at men no matter he appears or how she is for that matter(by looks). And when I say that I refer to those women who are quite grownups and not some teenager and of course few exceptions. I suppose their operating system has been designed in such way, while men would stare at anything that goes past by women don’t pretend most of the time. In most of the cases I firmly believe that it comes naturally to them, which is a huge accomplishment in itself. Anyways while all the 3 members on board were busy with their own work I too kept myself engaged by fiddling with the phone. All of a sudden the rikshaw bumped into one of those potholes, I guess the rikshaw driver was yet to overcome the hangover attained on NEW YEAR’S eve. Little further a dog popped up from almost nowhere which prompted an immediate brake from the driver. All of a sudden the lady slid down into the alley while I was leaning forward, as if I was anticipating her to bang me. True to my belief she banged me right across my forehead with hers’ while I tilted my head by 60 degrees downwards(as an inevitable lip contact was on the cards which would have brightened my stars and would have led her to a certain embarrassment ) and reduced the collision to a head to head bump which could have gone awry.

Even the woman sensed it as this time my eyes fell upon hers’ and I caught her perplexed. She looked visibly aghast and shaky. Though her calm demeanour stated that she was thankful to me in her own way for bailing her out of that embarrassing situation. I had all reasons to smile.
