Fashion being one of the most engrossing topics induces a high level of intellect and glam sham. It is one of those popular themes which is closely followed by millions independent of age, class and custom bar. In short it remains the most prominent fulcrum about which most of ours’ lives thrust. When we discourse fashion, trends, wardrobe, get up and other commodities of enhancement, our mind ensembles torrents of options that are visualised by them on a daily basis at numerous place. Some of them being cinemas, malls, pubs, metro and the much-hyped fashion shows organised by top honchos of the industry on a broader range across metro cities. Yes, these are the fashion protocol followed by masses deliberately. People do look up to those absorbing models featuring in the 60*40 banners hanging alongside towering mansions with a glint of desperation in their eyes to attain the same charisma. Still when it comes to the unveiling of seasonal collections at fashion shows fewer bizarre creations draw flak from the retro mass on the pretext of being too weird to understand, on the contrary, most of them make it to the closets of those hardcore fashion freaks who vie for it.
Of late a predominant thought has occupied my mind. And it is about the significance of rapidly disappearing ethnic wear (i.e Saree, Bindi, Bangles, and Kohl to name a few). While a current lot of youngsters seems to be smitten by the typical westernisation bug, Europeans, on the contrary, seem to have developed an affinity for our evergreen wardrobes. And this change of stance compels me to take a note of the profoundness that comes prefixed with our customary attire. Youngsters in our country would go nuts over the likes of high heels, corsets, revealing pullovers, backless dress, midriff defining, neckline revealing body hugging dresses. Today's women flaunting maximum becomes the source of inertia for the innovative designers of the apparel industry. At a recently concluded Paris fashion week designer, Jean Paul unleashed his model adorned with a circular black bindi accompanied by a bun hairdo. Similarly, in Milan international fashion week, a designer showcased his show stopper sporting turban which didn’t go unnoticed either and gave paparazzi their quota of news to brag. Over the years, European designers have shown their tremendous affinity towards exclusive Indian outfits and these people makes us wonder how over the years conventional Indian outfits have attained popularity among them. Our ethnic wear stands mascot for our almost dead cultural and ethical values. Despite the unprecedented popularity that western outfits enjoy among masses, the customary accessories for women by far remains the quintessential of femininity.
Personally, if I were to opine about the customary Indian outfits and how soothing it is to watch a maiden draped in a saree with a contrasting 'Bindi' firmly affixed amidst her temples, all I would say that it is eternal and divine. In fact, it is the most appealing fabric present in a woman’s closet that ever existed, but for that to happen the wearer must be skilled enough to make it visually apt. By far it remains the mother of obsessions for most women and a fantasising object for men.
Switching to another happening topic and that being typical marriage ceremonies that take place in Indian culture. A typical Sherwani- Lehnga clad function which has not only been favourites among us, rather have attracted the likes of wedding planners and fashion buffs from across the globe. The big fat Indian weddings which involve the huge sum of cash are in a way takeaway-opportunity for innovative brains. Designers fancy their chances by showcasing their talent and carve a niche for themselves in one of the biggest rising markets of the world. Enthusiasts from India as well as foreign land fancy their chances to deliver their best. As a matter of fact, the billionaires who flush out millions of rupee in wedding ceremonies just to create a buzz among their contemporaries remain golden goose for seasoned pros. And it can be better elaborated by quoting the instance of the extravagant wedding of Mr. Laxmi Mittal’s niece. Mittal went on to shell 500 cr. to make it an immemorial event and have been touted as second most lucrative wedding till date, next only to prince Williams’ wedding. Sole motive behind discoursing this event as an example is because the marriage took place in Europe and was organised in typical Indian style where guests, chefs, performers and designers were flown in from different parts of the world. I put it this way that it was a stamp of authority on fashion world by showcasing others that we aren’t subtle when it comes to setting trends. Many foreigners have married and others have expressed their desire to get hitched in India, and that too Indian way. Recently Hollywood actress Elizabeth Hurley scheduled her wedding in customary Indian way with the action taking place in a fort of Jodhpur. In fact, all the guests including the bride and groom were made to sizzle in the Sherwanis and Lehnga chunnis. Sharing these instances fills me with a sense of self-esteem as these occurrences are but the courier of India’s magnitude in the fashion realm.
Here the million dollar question awaiting to be answered is,‘ What kind of fashion should be followed ?‘’ well that totally depends on your intellect. I mean you know better what makes you look beautiful. Of course, a disc or a pub visitor would never try hip-hopping draped in a saree. Those working for IT firms at top managerial post have to slip on those formal wears and suits. But when it comes to socialising a traditional wear is always in the reckoning.
Shedding those extra clothes will never be out of fashion because it is termed as an agent of spreading raw appeal to the onlookers and is directly connected to universal demand and supply rule. Traditional wear outlines the same genuine appeal and to some extent, they outdo those extra short skirts and scantily dressed women. Can we say that a typical traditional wear is a perfect instrument for making a style statement and is an a go-to-option for women?
Having said everything I eloquently opined my insight about the thing I bat for and I hereby concede that everything comes with a specific significance, a label of value and style firmly stuck right across it. Now it is up to you to sabotage your demeanour or give it a touch of elegance. After all, it is you who knows better about yourself. Why would you try to cut a figure of a hag despite knowing that you are the most beautiful woman ever existed?
